Cook County Saloon in Edmonton submitted Description
The Honours
It seems almost automatic; the Canadian Country Music Association gets nominations for its Country Music Club of the Year, and Cook County Saloon is on the list. Cook County Saloon has taken home the trophy for Country Music Club of the Year a few times, and is a contender every year at awards time.
The Scene
The locale may be in the heart of Edmonton’s trendy Whyte Avenue scene, but the atmosphere is pure country. Stetsons, Wrangler jeans and denim shirts are standard apparel, along with cowboy boots. The vibe is all casual; there’s plenty of room for folks who want to kick back and hoist a beer with their friends. The scene heats up a lot more when the music starts; a mix of country hits and classics, sprinkled with some rock ‘n roll invites plenty of people on to the dance floor. If dancing isn’t in your night’s plans, check out the pool tables and electronic games.
The Music
Of course, a country club is all about the music, and Cook County has hosted its share of top-name acts over the years. Canuck favourites like Duane Steele, Patricia Conroy, Doc Walker and Duane Steele have graced the stage there. Cook County is also a favorite destination for touring big-name acts who have dropped into the club after their arena gigs.
The music is not all torch'n'twang on the Cook County stage. Rockers like Alannah Myles and Danko Jones have turned up the volume at Cook County.
