Billiard Club in Edmonton submitted Description
The Billiard Club is located on the second floor of Old Strathcona's historic
Post Office building. The Billiard Club is a landmark in an area rich in heritage, culture and diversity. After more than ten years of business in this location, The Billiard Club has established itself as an institution on Whyte Ave.
The Billiard Club has continued to evolve with its intimate ambiance and upbeat social atmosphere. It has earned a reputation as the place to meet friends for drinks and great food while playing pool, lounging on plush leather couches, or enjoying starlit nights on our fantastic second-story patio. The bar features premium spirits as our house liquor. We also offer a wide assortment of top shelf liquors, local and international drafts and our food menu goes far beyond traditional pub fare.
For some people, the mention of a billiard club conjures up images from the movie The Hustler of a smoke-filled basement room with low ceilings, lazy fans stirring the air, and men with rolled-up shirtsleeves playing eight-ball or billiards with equal amounts of nervousness and brash self-confidence. The Billiard Club dispels those images with its open, airy second-floor quarters in a historic former post office building in Old Strathcona. There may be the odd pool shark wielding a cue here, but the casual atmosphere also draws a lot of students, professionals and people who just want to relax with a game of pool, tip a couple of pints, and enjoy a night out.
The menu is definitely a blend of 21st century fusion fare with some familiar pub grub. Appetizers include the familiar Caesar and mixed green salads, along with pub grub staples like chicken wings, mozza sticks, spinach and artichoke dip and dry garlic ribs. The popular burger menu includes platters served up with a variety of fixings, as well as the blackened chicken burger, a garden burger for vegetarians, and the all-Canadian burger topped with bacon and ham.
The Billiard Club is not just about shooting pool; there’s big-screen TVs, video games, a well-appointed lounge area and a mix of pop and rock music on the speakers. The large second-floor patio gives people a bird’s-eye view of the street scene on the always vibrant Whyte Avenue strip
