Starlite Room in Edmonton submitted Description
A Sense of History
When the much-loved Rev Cabaret closed down in 2003, the old Salvation Army Citadel building's future was in doubt. Many local musical fans lamented the Rev’s demise; the venue had hosted a who’s who of musical acts over the years, including gigs in the early 90s by then unknown bands Nirvana and Green Day.
After some legal wrangling and a few delays, the Starlite Room opened at the same spot in 2004, reviving the Rev’s tradition of bringing in a diverse mix of musical talent. With bright red steel trim, a hardwood main floor and sightlines that give a great view of the stage, the Starlite Room has become a premier live music venue in Edmonton.
Made for Concerts
Just like the old Citadel Theatre, the Starlite Room has balconies where those who don’t want to get too close to the action on the floor can watch the crowd and the bands from a safe distance. The high stage and slanted main floor will seem a little strange to first time visitors, but when the concert-goers see that these measures help even people in the back of the pit see the band perfectly well, those rather unique traits will make a lot of sense. Opened just in time for the 2004 Juno weekend festivities, the Starlite has since become a mainstay on the local live music scene, hosting diverse acts including rappers, rockers, jazz jammers and country twangers.
